Make Your Chords More Interesting
You know the chords. Now hear what happens when you change a bass note, borrow a chord, or make the resolution wait.
Seven focused lessons that move from listening to playing to writing something of your own.
INSIDE THE KIT
Seven ways out of
the same old loop.
Every lesson includes a before-and-after example,
something to try, and an explained answer.
Change the bass note
Play the same chords with a descending bass line.
Add sevenths to your chords
Listen to the extra note, then choose where you want it.
Lead into a chord with its dominant
Raise C to C♯ and add G: Am becomes A7, leading into Dm.
Borrow the minor iv chord
Change F to Fm and listen to A–A♭–G.
End on an unresolved chord
End on G7 instead of C, then listen to the silence.
Delay the resolution with another chord
Put D♭maj7 between G7 and C.
Resolve to an unexpected chord
After G7, replace the expected C with Am.
TRY LESSON 04
Borrow the
minor iv chord.
Hear a borrowed minor chord in context. Then learn how to use the same movement in another key.

Bring your basic chords.
Bring your curiosity.
This kit is for songwriters and musicians who can already play major and minor chords and want to make more deliberate harmony choices.
The examples use keyboard voicings. The chord ideas transfer to guitar and other instruments; each lesson also includes guitar fret shapes in standard tuning.
